What is one thing you wish you had known before starting on Poultry Farming

It is exciting and at the same time a trying moment when getting started on poultry farming for the first time. I could not relax a bit thinking with questions like ; Have I forgotten to close the coop?, Are all my chicks still alive ? , Oooh did I give them enough water?. running in my head through out.

To help - those planning, first-timers and even the experienced poultry keepers , Let us hear those responses .

I wish I knew the proper temperature to brood chicks in the first few weeks. I, unfortunately, lost dozens of chicks when the cold weather/rains came and our electricity failed. We thought the chicks could last the cold temperatures until the power was back, but unfortunately, they could not. Now I always have a backup Jiko!

I wish I knew that I should build a larger coop than I thought. I had thought to myself that I just needed 10 chickens (8 layers & 2 Cockerels ) that would be enough for family eggs. Only to find after several months and hatches, I need a bigger space for the new birds. I even realized it is important to have a reserved place for sick chickens.

Ooh and the second one was that running after a chicken in an open field is not easy, it is enough physical. nilikimbia mpaka nikatoa ulimi nje.?

I wish I knew the importance of isolating a new stock of chickens from the older ones. I wouldn't have suffered the 95% mortality rate .

Good tips, when did this mishap happen and how many birds did you lose
